YONECO CHILD HELPLINE - 80001234

YONECO

Youth Net and Counselling (YONECO) leads the way again. In an effort to reach young people with relevant information on HIV/AIDS, human rights and child abuse and to protect children from abuse as well, YONECO has launched yet another facility for dealing with the Challenge. It is called Child Helpline. Young people can reach YONECO for this service on 80001234.

Branded as Tithandizane, the helpline is run and managed by a team of young people who have been specifically trained to respond to the various social injustices facing young people ranging from HIV/AIDS information, human rights abuse, and child violence among others. The service is with curtsey of HIVOS and KPN in the Netherlands and OSISA in South Africa.

YONECO helpline is toll free number that gets young people to get connected to Child Helpline Counsellors who are ready to listen and provide them with the help in the best possible manner. The YONECO Child Helpline allows one to one counselling on all personal and health issues relating to youth and children, reproductive health, gender based violence, violence against women, sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS.

YONECO Child Helpline is the first of its kind in the youth arena in Malawi and opens yet another unique opportunity for young people to get answers on questions that they wanted to ask and never had a chance because of the sensitivity of the questions.

YONECO has recruited a team of young people and trained them on various aspects of the on line counselling and will give you the best service that young people needs. YONECO Helpline is the most contemporary way to reach to young people and for young people to reach YONECO in order to create a self reliant youthful nation.

Apart from the Toll Free Number, young people will also have a number of other facilities that include:

  • Email: helpline@yoneco.org.mw
  • Newsletter: YONECO Voice, P.O. Box 471, Zomba
  • SMS: sms@yoneco.org.mw
  • Post mail YONECO Helpline, P.O Box 471, Zomba
  • Face to face counselling is available currently in Zomba, Balaka, Mangochi and Machinga, at the YONECO offices. There are plans to expand the services to other district of operations while also collaborating with other stakeholders like police and social welfare.
  • Community outreach interventions
  • Advocacy on child rights
  • Youth Ambassadors

Young people will therefore continue to share and discuss issues at that level through out.
